What is The Seacove Fund?
Two generations of our family came together to establish The Seacove Fund in 2023 to support local organizations working to create a more healthy, equitable, and resilient San Diego. We are new to the San Diego philanthropic community and come with open minds, a sense of curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Our approach to grantmaking is guided by our family's belief in the importance of respect, trust, and integrity. We also seek to build relationships with our grantees beyond the financial award and nurture a supportive partnership.
The 2024 CHANGE Grant program is our first grant making effort in the San Diego area. The Seacove Fund is a donor-advised fund of the Jewish Community Foundation San Diego (JCF). All grants are awarded by JCF and subject to its policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Who is eligible to apply for a CHANGE Grant?
Non-profit (501c(3)) or fiscally sponsored organizations, based in and serving the city of San Diego, CA, with an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less and active as an organization for at least two years are eligible to apply. Please note that grants will not be made to individuals.
How much is the grant for and how many will be awarded?
Each CHANGE Grant award will be in the amount of $3,000 in unrestricted/general operating funds. It is anticipated that six awards will be made in this 2024 pilot round, one in each of the project categories.
When are applications due? When will announcements be made? When and how will funds be awarded?
Applications are due by 5 p.m. PT on May 1, 2024. All applicants will be notified by June 1, 2024 of the status of their application. Grant funds will be disbursed to awardees no later than June 15, 2024 via The Seacove Fund's DAF at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. All grants are awarded by JCF and subject to its policies, procedures, and guidelines.
How do I apply for a CHANGE grant?
The application is available here.
The application looks short and simple. Is there anything else to submit?
We designed the application to be quick and easy so you can spend less time applying and more time doing good work in the community. We expect the application should take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete. No additional documentation is needed. If we have any additional questions, we will contact you directly.
My organization’s scope covers more than one of the categories. Which one should I choose in the application?
We recognize organizations may have projects that overlap categories. Choose the one that you think best defines your mission. During the review process, your application may be moved into a different category for consideration. Please only apply for one category and do not submit multiple applications.
Are there any written reporting requirements for grantees?
No. However, we look forward to discussing opportunities for us to learn more about your work, see your projects in action, and volunteer to support your efforts.
I still have questions. Who should I contact?
You can reach us through this contact form.
